Glasses befitting of a theologian

Having left my glasses in the Holy Land as a sort of accidental reciprocal relic (I’ll take some pieces of pottery – you can have my glasses), it’s time for me to look for some new ones.  I’ve decided I’d like to wear my theological influences on my face – or at least find some glasses befitting of a theologian who esteems academic pretension.  Currently I’m favouring the early Barth/Bonhoeffer look…

My one hesitancy is that my wife says I’d look like Harry Potter… any other suggestions of glasses that make a theological statement?

  1. You can always go with the Rowan Williams look.

  2. They come with eyebrows attached, right?

  3. I think you have to pay extra for those. It requires decapitating an owl that has been crossbred with a Vulcan. :-P

  4. Dare I suggest that its not the glasses that maketh the theologian, but perhaps the facial expression? see http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/F/father_ted/ for evidence of this. I also wonder if perhaps you should branch out…. think outside the square and put your theological ideals on your coffee….how about a dove, or the two loaves and five fish in your latte art?

  5. I really want to respond to this post in the style of Father Jack, but it might raise a few eyebrows for the uninitiated, so I’ll restrain myself.

Last night I tried making a coffee topped with an ancient trinitarian design, and it came up a treat, so more theolocoffees will follow… Perhaps I’ll post some pics at some point.

  6. I think posting pics is of great importance as nobody will believe you if you don’t :-D Faith is a wonderful wonderful thing, but not when it comes to mortal coffee-boasting.
