If you are the father of a young child, you will be familiar with the experience of hearing crying in the middle of the night, knowing that it’s your turn/job to go check it out, and semi-consciously making lame excuses as to why you CAN’T go check it out. This morning, my wife told me about last night’s offering from my sleeping lips:
Cara: Waaaaaaaa
Bec: Are you going to go to her?
Matt: But what happened to all the Calvinists?
Bec: Huh?
Matt: Nothing
Bec: So are you going to go to her?
Matt: But where are all the shapes?
Bec: Huh?
Matt: Nothing
Bec: So are you going to go to her?
Matt (actually waking from stupor): Yes already!
Hmmm… Should I read something into that?? Am I subconsciously worried about all the Calvinists???… and the shapes??? (PS Yes I know I promised a proper theological post soon, but it’s holidays, so it just doesn’t work that way)

Other than the fact that you are obviously disturbed, I stopped trying to figure out my dreams and utterances a long time ago. Only God knows our heart and anyone who thinks they can interpret people’s dreams is lying.
Although I wonder if there’s a connection between Calvinists and shapes or if they are two separate things.

I think Calvinism is a 5-pointed shape…
you are right of course – it is a pentagon. Have you been thinking about Calvinism? I often think and then dream in pictures – shapes, lines, dots … the synoptic problem is full of them. It’s how I try to work things out. But then I have enormous problems trying to translate it into words. Sometimes I feel like I can see things so clearly but I just can’t describe them! These dreams often turn into nightmares.
I haven’t really been thinking about Calvinism… but I know what you mean about seeing contour and pattern in texts and textual relationships… and finding it hard to translate that into logical argument!
He must have been in the back of your mind – what with it being his birthday so to speak. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had shown up in one of my nightmares – I keep coming across his name on blinking blogs!
