Did Darwin Kill God?
April, BBC Two
“The debate between religion and evolution has been hijacked by extremists: on one side stand fundamentalist believers who reject evolution, and on the other side are fundamentalist atheists who claim that Darwin’s theory rules out the possibility of God.
Philosopher and theologian Conor Cunningham declares that it’s time to set the story straight and argues that it is possible to be both a Christian and accept the theory of evolution.”
The above is publicity for a BBC programme featuring Conor Cunningham, from the Department of Theology here at Nottingham. I won’t comment at this point on the description of the programme, but will be very interested to watch it in April.

Bugger. I’ll miss it. Do you know the exact date? (May would be more convenient if you could arrange that
)
The info (but not yet exact date) can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/darwin
I’ll pull some strings and get them to show it in May – I’m considered something of a heavyweight down at the bbc…
Thanks, I knew you were
Is the programme called ‘Did Darwin killed God?’?
Conor mentioned yesterday that the title’s going to be something like ‘Darwin vs. God: The Myth’, but I’m not sure of the exact wording.
That’s a shame – your post title is much better!
Pete – sorry, I thought you were Matt. Now when is the baby due? Isn’t it now or is it April – gosh my memory is so muddled
Pretty much right now! But I get the impression he’s pretty happy where he is at the moment, so may be a while yet…
Oh my goodness! Best stay where he is with all that horrid Nottingham snow… make sure you let me know, Matt, when Pete becomes officially Daddy.
Why cant we use Darwins model to explain where we come from, and use religion as a set of teachings to live our lives and a way to treat our fellow man?
I see what you’re saying… but on the other hand – what if religion doesn’t want to be ‘used’ this way?
This is on tonight (Tuesday 31st March), 7pm, BBC2.
Religion may not want to be used in this way, but I think in this day and age where morals seem to be absent, it would be a good way for religion to get back into the public mind. Religion and the church always seem resitant to change. Plus im wondering if the church actually killed God and not Darwin. I mean it was the church who founded Oxford University in 1066(ish) as a place to prove the churches teachings about the bible. All that has happened is the opposite.
Was there really some golden age when “morals” were less absent?
