Today I’m getting photos taken for the back cover of my book. I’m supposed to provide a photo of head & shoulders in “a professional setting”. I guess that means “in front of books”. I think I’ll take a couple in front of books and a couple in an outdoor setting – in front of the lake – and I’ll let the publisher choose. But I’m toying with the idea of having a silly book carefully positioned in amongst the serious ones about archaeology/theology/greek/corinthians… any suggestions? Has Weird Al Yankovich authored a book???

Like your thinking…How about something from the ‘Dummies’ series… ‘Christianity for Dummies’ or ‘The Bible for Dummies’ or even ‘Writing a novel and getting published for Dummies’…
Hahaha that would be so cool! I’ll have a look around and see if there are any here along those lines…
Matthew, I do professional photography, and if you are going to take these photos by yourself here are a few tips.
1) if outdoors try to be in the shade and use flash
2) if indoors make sure you are facing the natural light from a window (i.e don’t turn your back to the window) you can use flash, but indoors they tend to create harsh shadows on the background which don’t look very nice. You can try using any white piece of paper to add some reflective lighting to your face. You will need someone helping you for that. Experiment with both.
Hey thanks Robert… looking back at the photos we took now, I can see it would have been worth my while reading your comment before we took them!! One or two are okay though…
Matthew, sorry that I was late. Hey next time you need some tips just feel free to ask, more than happy to help you out. If you lived in So. Cal I would have even taken your photo for free.
