Burn your Interlinears

Con Campbell’s post here has created quite a stir on the Biblical Greek email list.  I’m pretty much in agreement with his points – interlinears (and strong’s concordance) are not for people who read & use Greek; they are for people who would like to think they read & use Greek!!

  1. If you’re only using Strong’s as a concordance then it shouldn’t be a problem. But I’d ask, is BDAG, Lampe’s, or Louw & Nida, or LSJ for people who read and use Greek?

  2. Lampe is for people who are independently wealthy.

  3. True, if you’re using it as a simple concordance it’s no problem – it becomes a problem when people think understanding Strong’s numbers somehow unlocks magical secrets hidden in the Greek.
