I’ve finally settled down to read Tom Wright’s Paul and the Faithfulness of God. And true to expectation, he starts challenging scholarly consenses from the outset. The first consensus to be challenged is the strong reluctance to accept chiastic structure as governing the arrangement of an entire work (just see reviews of Kenneth Bailey’s work on 1 Corinthians for examples of this reluctance). Indeed, I count myself among the doubters. And then Tom gives us this… Sheesh!
